Love is in the air here at Harvest Gold Gallery. People are being very creative with their wedding rings.

This pair has two personalities shining through their use of 2 different karats of gold, 2 different colors of gold, and 2 different weights and widths.

Their unity is in the texture and the element of gold.

These folks likes the "bark" style texture. It looks nice with the Maine tourmaline too.

Jacob Stout Fine art glass and the Winter Sun

The winter sun and Jacob's American made hand blown vessels are a wonderful combination.

Using techniques perfected in Venice 500 years ago, he enjoys
applying these skills to modern glass design. All of his work begins
from the raw ingredients, silica, soda and lime, melted at 2500 degrees
into a hot, gooey liquid we know as glass. With a steel blowpipe he is
able to gather the hot glass on the tip and blow a bubble into it. As his
assistant blows into the pipe, Jacob sits at a bench and uses steel hand
tools to manipulate the bubble of glass into a desired shape. A punty
(solid steel rod) with a small gather of glass on the tip is then stuck on
the bottom of the vessel, and the piece is cracked off the blowpipe.
Once transferred, the top of the piece is finished and tapped off into
an annealing oven to be cooled slowly.

His uses watermelon colors when creating the pair of opposite colored pitchers. The match of size and color saturation is near perfect.

Now add his matching bowl. The variety of textures and color bend the light to dance on the table.

This process of glassblowing is very quick and requires much concentration, practiced technique, and good assistant communication. The study of these techniques inspires his forms and design choices. Smooth curves and transition of lines combine to create the figure of these vessels. Because no molds are used in his work, each piece displays a one-of-a-kind, hand-made appearance.

On a recent trip to Florida to do some shopping for Harvest Gold Gallery I had a chance to visit my Dad.

He likes his cereal every day but wants it to be interesting.

So he has started mixing and matching all sorts of brands to create his own special kind.

Museum Quality Master Hot Glass Artists At Harvest Gold Gallery

Stephen Lundberg was one of the first Hot glass artists we began to collect. This was years before we ever thought we'd have a Gallery. Of course, his work looks lovely in the natural light with so many layers of color and clear the vase becomes almost 3-dimensional.

Charles Lotton. Yes, that's right The Charles Lotton was one of our first Hot glass artists. We had such good taste! His work paved the way for the American Hot glass artists of today. Shattering the myth that the Europeans were the best glass artists. Now we carry the next generation in Charles' family. Several of his family members have become involved in the business Scott Bayless perfumes are beautiful and Jim Heer has the Caliliy perfect in the vase and perfume.

Orient and Flume's artists use amazing detail in their work. Each is signed and numbered, highly collectable. This company is based out of Southern California and has been producing fine quality work for over 20 years.

Some Favorite Custom Pieces

This was a great season for custom pieces. These Tree of Life rings are made in white gold with the sapphire gems from the girls Great-grandmother's ring which was broken beyond repair, by their mother for Christmas. Such a cool way to remember our ancestors.

These sapphire earrings were custom designed for comfortable everyday wear that looks amazing. He started the process and she picked it up and together we came up with these.

This heavy sterling silver Tree of Life dog tag style pendant with heavy cable chain was perfect for the young man turning 18 on his high school graduation day. Congrats Chase:)

The crinkle cuff has been Bill's new idea. So far he has been very successful with this new narrow version in yellow gold with the matching earrings.

And of course there has to be one picture of Kezar Lake in Center Lovell Maine overlooking the White Mountains of New Hampshire. So pretty.

People ask us all the time, "Do you ever get tired of the view?" Bill's new sterling silver cuff frames Kezar Lake nicely, don't you think?

We thought we would just share a few beautiful moments we have witnessed this season here in Center Lovell on Kezar Lake overlooking the White Mountains of western Maine and New Hampshire.

The Mountain ring in 14k white gold and the White Mountains, could you ask for a better background?

The mountains in this sculpture carved out of a moose antler by artist Sherri Medley, mirror the horizon.

Live edge wooden picture frames and bowls, made in America, of course everything we carry is made in America, and the skyline make a natural combo.

Early morning mist and the pink sky,

Kezar Lake Memoirs book signing and Holiday Open House

Harvest Gold Gallery presents the book, Kezar Lake Memoirs edited by Catherine Ingram Stone.

In the summer of 1889, five young men arrived on the shores of Kezar Lake in Lovell Maine and set up their tents for five weeks. They climbed the surrounding mountains, caught abundant fish, and thoroughly enjoyed “camp life”. These men kept extensive records of their early visits to Lovell. Photographs, including those from their first camping expedition in 1889, still exist.

Kezar Lake Memoirs is a collection of those writings, which reflect a defining time in Lovell’s history. The population and economy had been in decline for many years and tourism was about to become Lovell’s major industry. The five campers witnessed and documented the growth of hotels and boarding houses and changes in the lake’s usage and the area’s wildlife. They wrote about the long-lasting friendships they developed and the folklore they heard.

Catherine Ingram Stone is the great-great-niece of Arthur Stone, one of the original campers on Kezar Lake in 1889. Catherine earned her masters degree in Political Science from NYU and went on to teach there as well. She has always been a summer resident of Lovell and in 1996 she became fulltime. She has served as President of the Lovell Historical Society since 2003. Proceeds from the sale of this book go to the Lovell Historical Society.

Over one hundred years later, her family of three grown daughters and her dog Finnegan continue to enjoy Arthur’s property on Rattlesnake Island.

Peach of a day in Center Lovell

What a peach of a day it was in lovely Lovell. The temps were up in the 60's and the sun was shining. We took the opportunity to take a few photos of some of our favorite glass pieces. With everything American made we feel fortunate to have some museum quality pieces up here in downtown Center Lovell.

Orient and Flume is one of the best in America. They have been blowing beautiful quality pieces for over 20 years in California.

The paper weight collection of Orient and Flume is a great addition to any space.

We have to put a pair of earrings in because we make jewelry here and there is always a new item! Today we made a cool pair of Dangle Dot earrings in sterling silver. So fun when they move and catch the light.

The acorn vase is one of their signature pieces. The layers of colors and detail of the design is in harmony with the colors and the formal form of the vase. Truly a collectable.

New Custom Jewelry At Harvest Gold Gallery

I know most of you want to see the view so here it is. The top of Eastman Hill, in Center Lovell Maine overlooking Kezar Lake and the White mountains. Now, here are some recent custom pieces we've made.

This Sterling silver charm bracelet was made to order. She picked from over 20 different designs of hand cut images to make her bracelet special.

This woman wanted a ring she could wear and wear every where! She was so happy :)

This one was so much fun I had to post 2 pictures. She found the Maine tourmaline in Bethel Maine herself and we made the setting in sterling silver.

The light house design comes from a wonderful story of love and romance. A couple came to visit the Harvest Gold "factory"v after having collected our jewelry for over 25 years of their marriage. She always loved light houses we were happy to make a new design.

Friends from my youth with special days to celebrate.

A wonderful fun piece made of Maine tourmaline and 14k yellow gold for one of our favorite people.

Of course, there has to be a wedding band. So pretty with a diamond for every child.

This ring is a recycling of a beautiful blue topaz reset into sterling silver with a 14k rose gold accent.

The Baby Loon in Middle Bay Kezar Lake

With the temperatures in the upper 70s it was a perfect day to get out on Lake Kezar. Record breaking heat in October was wonderful.

Boat traffic was light on Sunday afternoon and the almost full moon was over the trees on the shore.

The lighting was perfect and the baby looked great!

It was nice to see the parent loon was still playing an active role with the chick.

You can't help but feel fortunate living in Center Lovell watching the mist come in and the loons slice through the water.

Egg Tempera artist Barbara Coburn

Award winning watercolor artist, Barbara Coburn has been painting the beautiful New England countryside since her early college days. She got her Fine Art degree at Anna Maria College. From there she was very successful in the advertising and marketing world. Her first love, however, has always been painting. Lately she has discovered a new medium. Studying with some of the great egg tempera artists she has come to love this new to her technique.

Egg tempera is a painting process that uses egg yolk to bind pigments, the color, into paint. The artist must manufacture the paints herself by finely grinding the pigment and mixing it with water and egg yolk. The paint is then applied in a method where the optical laws of egg tempera are obeyed thus the unique surface of egg tempera will be achieved.

Tempera paint dries rapidly. It is normally applied in thin, semi-opaque or transparent layers. Tempera painting allows for great precision when used with traditional techniques that require the application of numerous small brush strokes. When the final painting is created then it is sealed with an organic varnish. This is needed especially if you have a cat around who might want a little lick of that egg!

With the ancient egg tempera technique Barbara creates a luminous glow in her work. The detail that she can achieve is amazing. Every blade of tall grass in the field by the old barn is visible. All the paint peeling off the old boat is there!

Tempera paintings are very long lasting, and examples from the 1st centuries AD still exist. Egg tempera was a primary method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by the invention of oil painting. Andrew Wyeth was one of the most noted egg tempera painters. His painting, Christina’s World is very well known.

I love it when my customers inspire new designs. This week we had a horse lover come in.

It came out so good I made one for my niece's birthday!

Maine is very inspiring too.

We have some pretty celestial designs and even an angel.

My sister's coffee shop was a good reason enough for this design but my Grandmother always had a cup of coffee going, just 1/2 a cup.

Two hearts and the moon and star are always favorites.

I love how they look all together!

This beauty by Carol Novotne is along the Saco river. There are so many paintings of local color that I thought it would be fun to share a few of them.

MaryEllen Serina captured a rainbow over Kezar Lake.

Guy Tringali loves to paint Kezar Lake as well.

Varvara Harmon loves the light on the narrows by the town beach on Kezar Lake.

Carol looks over the Kezar lake from the north end.

Our very own Jean Franz Miller from Center Lovell caught a sunset in Middle Bay on Kezar lake. Bonnie Ferguson a local summer visiter has a nice one of the birch trees and the sunset.

Diane Scott from Chatham loves to paint plein air style at Catherdal Ledge in North Conway and the intersection of Rt 16 and 302 by the Burger King. I don't think I've ever seen it look so good!

Diane loves tractors as we can all tell by these local farm paintings of Sherman Farm and the Fryeburg Fair.

And one spot we all know and love Chandlers Garage at the corner in lovely downtown Lovell.

Then we have Ros Farbush who at 83 years old last saturday turned out a masterpiece of our favorite breakfast and lunch spot Rosie's.

Tomato season at Harvest Gold Gallery

Fearful we would not have enough tomatoes this year Bill planted no less than 36 plants! Now we are picking everyday in 7 different varieties. Even this funny little one that looks like he has a hat.

Our screen porch is table is covered with great colors and delicious flavors. Many customers have been seen walking out with a sampling!

After giving away free samples we are still left with quite a few. We have started making sauce. In three colors this time.

Come in for a taste of tomatoes!

Carol Novetne Showing At Harvest Gold Gallery

Carol Novotne was the inspiration for us to carry fine art at the gallery. Visiting her long time friend who summered here in Lovell with her friend Cricket who lived next door. What a story. Carol saw the gallery and had to come in.

She and Bill started talking and looking around. "Look at these beautiful walls. They need some paintings!"

The following spring Carol shipped seven original oil paintings to the gallery. Beautiful expressionistic local landscapes bursting with color arrived. One of Kezar Lake from atop Hatch Hill was sold in the first week!

That was 2002. Now 9 years later the collection has grown. Carol has won numerous more artistic achievements including Western Woman Artist of the Year.

Carol make regular trips to New England to collect ideas for future paintings and enjoy what we all love about Lovell and her other favorite Maine stops like Bar Harbor and Portland.

She lives in Helena, Montana with her husband Roger. We feel fortunate to have Carol's award winning paintings here in beautiful downtown Center Lovell.

Hurricane Irene Hits Harvest Gold Gallery!

This was the scene shortly after noon on Sunday. We had lost power about 1/2 an hour earlier when there was a huge sound. Bill and I rushed to see. The wires were across route 5 and dangling from the Gallery! Our local favorite Tripp Turner was first to try and cross followed by Freddie Wilson.

The wind was still howling! The power crew didn't make them wait very long. Within 20 minutes they were there to make the situation safe.

Everything looks better with some sunshine on it! It was still very dangerous as the broken pole was very hard to see in the trees and the pole ahead looked ominous.

We were greeted by variety of crews to repair the damage. They were mostly from New Brunswick Canada and very pleasant, we were very happy anytime they stopped by!

Our neighbors will be very happy too!

By the third day we were very appreciative of all the wonderful people that came together to make the storm so much better than it could have been. A big Thank You to the Lovell Fire Department for the yummy dinners.

We were sitting in the lake on the dock!!

15th Summer in Center Lovell

Harvest Gold Jewelers Lynda Rasco and Bill Rudd are showing their beautiful jewelry at the Gallery for the 15th season in Center Lovell.

Lynda and Bill started their jewelry company in 1985. They were living on Knight’s Hill Road with their new baby and Lynda was making jewelry in the basement. Bill was a chef at that time in Fryeburg at the Oxford House Inn. After his son was born Bill decided that he would be able to spend more time with his family if he joined the jewelry business with Lynda.

He started with the sales. The first day he brought home a bottle of champagne to celebrate his success. Of course the wine cost more than the profit!

He learned quickly both from Lynda who grew up making jewelry in Lincoln, MA and from his jeweler friends. Bill attended Haystack Mountain School of Arts and Crafts to learn from Heike Seppa the raising technique he uses to make his flexible gold cuffs.

Being a creative person Bill took his new skills to design and fabricate a gold cuff that won an award for American goldsmithing in 1987. Together they created a line of wearable gold jewelry that would be sold in some of the finest galleries and jewelry stores in America.

26 years later, the kids are grown and Lynda and Bill run a beautiful American made fine art and craft gallery in Center Lovell. The jewelry line has expanded to include sterling silver as seen on Carley, their daughter. Lynda has been busy stringing tourmaline and other gemstone beads and pearls into lovely.

They specialize in recycling old gold into new pieces that can be worn and enjoyed for generations to come. You can bring your old gold to the Gallery and recycle it into something that you can wear everyday. Remembering the person who maybe worn it as a wedding band or earrings before you and thinking about who may wear it in the future.

Ros Farbush showing at Harvest Gold Galley

Harvest Gold Gallery is pleased to present a collection of paintings by Boston artist Ros Farbush.

Harvest Gold Gallery is very excited to present a collection of original acrylic cityscapes by Boston artist Ros Farbush now showing through Columbus Day. Farbush captures the light of everyday scenes with bright exciting colors in an impressionistic style. Her work is lively and fun.

She says, ”Artists see things a lot differently. Because of the creativity in us we see a lot of colors that other people don’t see. I’ve been an artist all my life and I’ve never lost my focus. I like to capture the essence of the moment, a certain color or the energy of a landscape; I want to record the drama of life through my art.”

Ros is a graduate of The School of the Museum of fine Arts in Boston where she also taught drawing and painting for over 30 years. She has inspired many New England artists teaching at the South Shore Art Association, The Duxbury Art Association and The Cape Cod Art association. Ros is a member of the prestigious Copley Society of Art, the oldest art association in America where she holds the title of master painter. The recipient of numerous local and national awards, Ros has held dozens of solo shows and juried group exhibitions during her distinguished career. Recent awards include the Dorothy Palmer Painting Award (2009) from the South Shore Art Association as well as the Calendar Cove award and the Katherine M Wolff memorial award for floral composition (2010) from the North River Arts Association.

Plein Air painter Diane Scott

Harvest Gold Gallery presents Diane Scott, plein air painter from Chatham New Hampshire.
Plein air oil painter, Diane Scott captures the light of the moment in an everyday scene and makes the canvas come alive.

She paints landscapes, urban scenes and seascapes.

She is not a photo realist. Most would describe her work as impressionistic. At their best, her paintings reflect her excitement in the field through expressive brushwork and heightened color. It’s wonderful to see how the corner of Rt. 16 and Rt. 302 in North Conway becomes magical through Diane’s painting.

“I try to get a good solid base in the field then I let myself paint a painting. I have some fun with it. I like to think of it as having a conversation with the painting, letting it take on a life of it’s own.”

At Herts College of Art and Design in St. Albans, Herts, England is where Diane received her BFA. She moved from Canada to New England to become a full time painter in 1996. She lived with her husband for many years in Boston.

Eventually they bought a cottage in Chatham. Now they feel fortunate to call the cottage their full time home.

Scott’s subject matter changes depending on what strikes her as beautiful that day. Sometimes it will be a grand overlook of Cathedral Ledge or a farmyard with lots of machinery. From cluttered back alleys and scenes of daily life, she can bring things together to create a pleasing pattern on the canvas and capture the essence of Western Maine and Carroll County.

Currently on show at Harvest Gold Gallery there are several local scenes. One of our favorites is from right here in Lovell, "Still Working" is a portrait of Chandler’s Garage on Rt. 5.

She loves to paint tractors. “Little Boy, Big Dreams” has a small child gazing at a huge tractor at the Fryeburg Fair.

Andy Curran Shows new painting and cards at Harvest Gold

Andy Curran’s new paintings and cards now showing at Harvest Gold Gallery through Columbus Day.

Andy Curran’s emotional connections with the natural environment throughout New England are captured in his acrylic paintings. Born and raised in Westbrook Maine he knows Maine and may even be considered a local by some. He received his bachelors of fine arts degree from University of Southern Maine and currently spends his time creating new pieces in his studio on family land in Westbrook.

As a hiker and explorer Andy imprisons his experiences in nature in his mind until he can express them on canvas. His impeccable memory of seascapes, mountains and meadows guide his paintings. When back in the studio he evokes the feelings of his travels and creates moving renditions of nature.

Many of his paintings have been put on 100% recycled greeting cards. Each card is accompanied by a poem expressly written by Andy to reflect his feelings and impressions about the painting. His cards are a perfect souvenir of Maine to take on your travels.

Loon chick in Middle Bay Kezar Lake

Who knew that the baby loon really does ride on the back of its mother? I found out the other day, two weeks ago when I met these two in our backyard at Kezar Lake in Center Lovell, Maine. I've had a great time watching them this summer and thought you might like to see these beautiful birds!

Here the daddy loon showed up with dinner! The two have been fishing and feeding all day everyday now.

He is very protective of his family. See how he is steering them away from the motor boat.

I was happy to see he was still alive after the weekend that I just had to take another photo!

Eland Brothers Art at Harvest Gold Gallery

Eland brothers, Ric and Bill are showing their individual and collaborative sculptures at Harvest Gold Gallery now through Columbus Day. The two are artistically gifted each with their own style and particular mediums. From different careers in life the two have come together in art.

Ric, currently residing in Brownfield, began carving wood 25 years ago. He has become a master of carving wood into imperative wildlife art sculpture. Through the beauty of natural wood grains he compliments the essence of the subject matter. The gallery is showing a three special aquatic pieces including a Hammer Head Shark, Sea Turtle, and 3 Tropical fish. Ric has a very personal understanding of the value of life for all living creatures. As an artist he feels strongly that his work should reflect the need of mankind to interact with the natural environment and help preserve wild life in all forms. He is a member of the National Wildlife Federation and the Audubon Society.

Bill Eland worked in creating stainless steel parts for airplanes as his first career. He now lives in Harrison Maine and has turned his skills into more artistic creations. He is exhibiting a collection of “Calder like” mobiles in stainless steel at Harvest Gold Gallery. His humor shows in the title 1951 a stainless steel mobile inspired by discovery of boomerang flight. It reminds us of StarTrek! It’s easy to see the influence of the aeronautics world.

Together the two brothers have combined their talents and created two unique representational pieces in stainless steel. One, a supersized dragonfly sits perched on a thin leaf atop a granite block, standing over 3 feet tall. The second, a bonsi tree with over 300 leaves grows out of granite stone with the roots hugging it for support. The new art has arrived and it’s up and ready for summer! This year, Harvest Gold Gallery is showing the largest collection of original fine art and crafts yet. There are many new works by our favorite artists and new artists have been added to the gallery as well. It was a great winter for creating!

Varvara Harmon, of Windham, is showing several of her new works including her amazing “Roses on Silk” original oil painting that has won many international awards. It is done in the style of the old masters and so real you can feel the softness of the silk and almost smell the roses. She has some new landscapes of special places like Kezar Lake and even one that combines the four seasons in one forest scene.

Our local Lovell artist, Tom Merriam, known for his huge murals on the red barn of the Raymond and Casco Historical Society, has been busy with extra large paintings and his extra small, miniature paintings. Don’t be surprised to see some light-hearted bear carvings sprinkled around the gallery. Carving has always been a special passion for Tom. His new children’s books are now out. He has two so far. Fun Stories and delightful illustrations, combined with the high quality cards that he has developed, make his work available to all. We are fortunate to have such talented people here in our community.

One of the new artists this year is a young glass artist from Maine, Konrad Hunter. He twists the light when it streams through his liquid like forms that hang in the window. Lacey Pots has new peace bowls and chickadee plates in bright fun colors. Sally Bags you know has lots of new fun styles for summer. Their laptop bag combines with mix and match cosmetic bags to make a great set. Bruce May had a great winter of woodturning. Now with more people wanting to eat from natural wood bowls, he has delivered a beautiful cherry salad bowl and several personal sized bowls. Wooden sandwich boards by a family business from Blue Hill finish the table.

Harvest Gold Gallery presents a new series of paintings by French decent artist, Pascale Judet for the 2011 collection.

Born in 1946, Pascale fell comfortably in love with art in the early 1970s. In her Vashon Island home, Pascale employs her natural ability to capture the constant motion of the true beauty of Mother Nature.

A graduate from Sorbonne in 1968 Pascale received a degree in philosophy, only to uncover by the early 1970’s her passion for creative mediums. Her future work in bookkeeping and painted mixed media brought her the opportunity to display her works in several galleries around the U.S. including Seattle, Boston and Portland Maine.

Dabbling in all sorts of media, Pascale found painting to be a perfect fit for her new line of scenic clocks. Simplified and distinctive, Pascale’s clocks are revered for their surrealist style of painting and intricate care of her subjects that range from rocky landscapes, to snowy fields. Delicate, Pink, and oh so Elegant - The Pink Lady Slipper arrives in Full Bloom

We took a little hike up our neighboring mountain, Sabatus Mountain, here in Center Lovell this week. What a lovely surprise just before reaching the summit we were greeted by the pink lady slippers that lined the pathway and sprouted up deep in the woods. A member of the orchid family, the pink lady slipper is a rare sight and is listed as an endangered species in many northern states.

The lady slipper has been an inspiration to artists for centuries with it's beautiful delicate shape and continues to be one of New England's unique motifs.

I can't believe it is almost June!

With the winter we had this year it sometimes felt like we would never see summer. And now that it is so close it's hard to believe where the time went!? We love all of the seasons here in Center Lovell Maine, but there is something invigorating about the summer! Bill's garden produces a bounty of yummy vegetables that he seamlessly whips up into tasty meals! Summer is the time of year when we ready our gallery walls with new artwork from around the country and then we through a little gallery opening to share with the community. Summer is also a time for us to reunite and catch up with our friends who summer at Lake Kezar. We also work with our brides and grooms on custom wedding jewelry, and help husbands pick out the perfect anniversary present. ahhh summer.

We have a lot going on this year and so I wanted to take a minute and share one of the many new things to our shop- this lovely Peace bowl set arrived this week! Can't you imagine eating a large heaping of fresh salad or pasta out of these bowls!? yum.

While working on Tree of Life jewelry there is time to reflect on the many natures of trees.

There are so many ways trees are part of lives. They touch us every day.

Carley took this one, at sunrise, of Lake Tahoe during her photo class there. She was happy to be where Morgan lives for a bit.

The back yard with the tree my grand mother gave Bill and I on our 10th wedding anniversary 20 years ago!!

Winter time sunny morning good for working on trees. These are all ready to become jewelry!

So amazing to think of all the trees I've "chopped" from the gold and sterling sheet. Transforming the gold into a "forest" of Tree of Life jewelry.

Many people remember people by the tree symbol. I put extra love into the pieces in remembrance of others.

This beautiful poem helps put in words the feelings that trees inspire.

We are grateful every winter for the gift of warmth from the trees.

Spring is coming. We know because the amaryllis are blooming, the deer are out and the sun is ever higher in the sky!

This is one of my favorite vases ever. We met Doug Merritt over 20 years ago and fell instantly in love with his graceful crystal hand blown glass vases. This one works perfectly for the amaryllis that got too heavy for itself.

The deer we noticed out back just hanging around enjoying the snow squall.

So smile, spring is on the way:)

Grandmother Latimer from "2240" in Coral Gables Florida gave us 3 Amaryllis bulbs from her yard nearly 30 years ago.

Bill has been caring for them and at this time of year we get an amazing display of brilliant color just in time for the end of winter blues.

Grandmother Latimer lived in Miami for over 50 years. She was an entrepreneur even back then selling Mountain Valley Water with her husband.

They had a victory garden with large grass hoppers. The neighbor's avocado tree had the biggest fruit I've ever seen. The only source for the hot water was the solar system on the roof.

The flowers bloom again in the summer so make sure to look for them when you stop by.

We stay in shape up here that's for sure.

Most of the wood in the shed has been moved into the wood furnace after Jake stacked it so nicely this summer.

Then there's all that snow to move so you can get in and out.

But look how beautiful it is on the railing and the bird feeder.

Then there is the incomparable fun of a hot sunny day with flowers, friends and the rope tow out back.

The lake is amazing in the winter months. Wind swept snow buries the slush underneath. Be careful if you venture out on the lake. Even though there is a foot or more of ice between the ice and snow a layer of slush can form when it's warm (over 32!).

Snow shoes work well for adventures out back down to the lake. As long as you are well bundled you can stay out and enjoy the sunshine in the woods. Up hill is always warmer!

Keep Warm with New Quilts from Carole and Charles Hicks

During these cold and wintery months a little extra color and warmth can bring a burst of joy to our lives. With this is mind Harvest Gold Gallery is pleased to present a beautiful collection of handmade quilts to be on display through the winter season. Quilters, Carole and Charles Hicks of Bridgeton, Maine have been immersed in both the quilting and art industry for several years. Their collection of quilts denotes wildlife motifs reminiscent of Maine’s stunning outdoors accented with bright geometric patterns. Carole received her education through classes offered by Cornell University in Hicksville, NY and later went on to teach classes in sewing. With her spare time she continues to further learn the artistry of quilting while also learning to batik handbags, penny wool rugs, needle punch and paper pierce. She is a member of the Chickadee Quilters Association of Bridgeton, ME as well as the Pine Tree Quilters of Maine Association. Her husband Charles has taught classes in industrial arts in both Levittown, NY and for the Lake Region High District in Naples, ME. Together they have received ribbons for their quilts from the Fryeburg Fair Association and are honored throughout the North East for the exquisitely handcrafted and aesthetically designed quilts. The collection of quilts at Harvest Gold Gallery include king, queen, twin, and baby sizes in addition to the one of a kind table runners. Warm dinner on a cold winter night

Bill created a delightful French Country Cassoulet to ease the chill on a January evening in Maine. "Cassoulet" is a fighting word in the southwest of France. Each housewife has her recipe, her method, which is the right and only way." This from the Great Women Chefs of France cook book where Bill spent some of his research for his perfect Cassoulet.
This is the list of ingredients:
2 pounds Great Northern white beans, dried
1 teaspoon of thyme
3 bay leaves
2 onions
2 strips smoked bacon
1 whole head of garlic
3-4 carrots
4 garlic sausages
4 fresh pheasant breast
6 legs of duck
4 country style pork ribs
1/4 cup goose fat
6 cups duck stock
4 cups fresh bread crumbs

He started by soaking the Great Northern white beans overnight, 6-8 hours. Throw out the water and put the beans in a large pot and cover with duck stock. Add Thyme, bay leaf, bacon, whole garlic sausages, chopped garlic and quartered onions. Set over low heat simmering until beans are tender, about 1 1/2 hours. This is only the first part of the cassoulet. Now to the meats.

Separate the duck legs and thighs trimming excess fat and cut pork into 2" chunks. Season with salt and pepper and roast at 450 for 45 minutes until browned.

Remove large pieces of onion from bean mixture, discard. Remove and cut into small pieces, whole garlic sausages and bacon. Add to the meat roasting pan with other meats layering bean mixture and diced raw carrots covering with the remaining liquid.

Add raw skinned pheasant breast cut into small pieces to the top of the pan and cover with foil. Bake at 325 until it simmers about 1/2 hour.

Reduce oven temperature to 300 and cover with fresh bread crumbs. Drizzle goose fat over the top and bake uncovered for 2 - 3 hours until brown and bubbly.

Serve with your favorite red wine, crusty french bread, spinach salad and 8-10 hungry friends.

Autumn Colors with a Few Extra Guests

Bill and I took a lovely fall afternoon walk up Eastman Hill to pay a visit to the farm's beautiful horses. The lighting and colors could not have been more amazing!

These are the moments that remind us why we love where we are, and they make us feel so lucky to be able to do what we love to do.

Of course Bill was able to call over the whole horse family, including their new born. How cute!

We returned home to find the flock of turkeys roaming through our yard.

Bill's Pesto, a quick and Tasty Recipe!

It's that time of year when the vegetable garden has seen better days, and the final harvesting of herbs and such must take place before the garden rests for the winter. For Bill, this translates into- PESTO making time! Pesto is a tasty sauce that can be made in a big batch and stored in the fridge or even freezer to add to your dishes at your convenience. Bill has a quick and tasty recipe that fits any Pesto craving!

The recipe is as follows: Pick your fresh basil, and using a food processor, add 2 cups of basil leaves, 1/3 cup of pine nuts, 8 cloves of peeled fresh garlic, 3/4 cup of shredded parmesan cheese. Blend this all together into a nice green and aromatic paste! Then add 1 cup of olive oil and blend the oil into the paste. Store the Pesto in a jar and keep refrigerated and use within 30 days. OR store your pesto into ice cube trays in the freezer. Once they are frozen, pop them out into a ziploc bag and Voila- Pesto all winter long! So yummy!

Being featured in an Etsy treasury- is always such fun!

For those of you that don't know- Etsy- the e-commerce site where we have two shops, has this great feature called "treasury" that allows members to curate their own gallery of favorite pieces that are for sale on Etsy! It's a great way to network, to shop, and to search through the mass amounts of fun things folks are selling. Also- Etsy chooses treasuries to feature on their front page through out the day. Making it to the front page is every Estian's goal- it provides great exposure and often results in some sales! Here are 3 new treasuries we are in!

A Custom Engagement Ring- made from heirloom jewelry

We LOVE making custom jewelry, it gives us an opportunity to work closely with our customers to help translate their love and their story into an heirloom they will cherish!

Here is the story of Bethany and Wade's engagement ring (pictured above). Bethany and Wade are engaged and they came to us with the hope of repurposing a few pieces of family jewelry into one ring. Bethany is a big fan of etsy and sells her own work on the site. Thus it was only natural for her to search for a ring on Etsy. And through her search Bethany found us!

Bethany wanted a non-traditional ring that would be both comfortable to wear on a daily basis and yet would be classic, lasting a life time. Bethany also wanted one ring with the look of two bands. In addition, she wanted different textures, various widths, and a combination of different golds- all wrapped into one beautiful ring. To start, Bethany had her father's yellow gold wedding band which was very sentimental, especially because of its engraving. In addition, Bethany also had a sapphire from her mother that both her mother and grandmother had worn in its original setting, a high traditional tiffany mounting. As with most family jewelry, over the years the stone had received a few "love taps" and therefore the stone's chips needed to be concealed.

Keeping all these factors in mind, we began brainstorming. We worked all these ideas and materials into one ring with 2 textures, two colors of gold, two widths, engraved with the parents sentiment and a bezel setting for the sapphire to hide the "love" taps! Bethany now has a ring that incorporates something from her father, her mother and grandmother- what a great foundation to have as one begins their own marriage, to be so blessed. Now Bethany can wear this custom ring for a life time and pass it on to the next generation.

I can't express how much I enjoyed working with Lynda to design our engagement ring. I originally found her through etsy, because I was looking for a jewelry designer who would recycle my parents old wedding/engagement rings. Not only did she spend endless time helping us design the ring, she gave us ideas we wouldn't have thought of--such as saving the inscription on my Dad's ring. The ring came out just as I imagined. And it fits perfectly!! I highly recommend contacting Lynda if you have an interesting idea or you want to recycle/reuse an older piece of jewelry. We were able to create our entire ring from these family pieces. Though my Dad won't be able to attend my wedding--I now have something that will represent him. Thanks again Lynda--for giving these materials a new life.

Green Beans Year Round with Bill's Kitchen Tips

From the garden to the freezer with this large amount of green beans we'll be eating home grown garden fresh green beans all winter. It's been a great year for the garden with the early spring and hot sunny days this year, thus we have an abundance of green beans.

Bill's best tip for savoring your green beans year round is quite simple.

1. Pick all your green beans when they're ripe and wash all dirt off

2. While you're washing your beans have a full pot of water heating to a boil

3. Also be sure to have a full bowl of ice water close by

4. When the water boils carefully add all the beans and bring back to a boil

5. Once the boil returns quickly remove and strain the beans

6. Add the strained beans to the ice water and gentle toss until cold

7. Remove beans from ice water and prepare the beans either French cut or Julian cut

8. Pack and store beans in freezer bags in the portions you desire

9. Store in freezer until ready to use on that cold winter day and simple place frozen beans in boiling water

10. When water returns to a boil your beans are ready to strain and eat!

Conway, NH Artist Nathan Macomber Featured at Harvest Gold

Harvest Gold Gallery is so excited to bring you the work of Nathan Macomber, a new and up coming artist from the White Mountains of Conway, New Hampshire. Nathan Macomber first blew glass at Massachusetts College of Art in 1995. He was hooked from his first bubble. In 1999 he received his B.A. in glass from Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. He has also studied at the Corning Musuem of Glass in New York, the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine.

Nathan has also served as an instructor for the Corning Museum of Glass, the Snow Farm craft school in Massachusetts and he teaches private classes at his studio in Conway, New Hampshire.

Nathan spent the first seven years of his career in glass working in Prescott, Arizona where he developed his style and body of work. In the spring of 2002, he moved to his family's old farm in the White Mountains of Conway New Hampshire where he used to come as a young boy to see his grandma and other relatives. There, he has set up his own private studio where he can be found almost every day blowing glass, teaching, or maintaining the hundred year old farm, which has been in his family since 1949. In 2003 he juried into the League of New Hampshire Craftsman with his blown glasswork and in 2005 he juried in his metal work, which he often combines with his glass. Nathan has been serving on the League’s glass jury since 2006.

Harvest Gold Gallery features a large collection of Macomber’s work including colorful glass paperweights, glass tumblers, large glass bowls, glass window sun catchers, indoor sculptures that combine large glass discs with artful metal bases, and outdoor sculptures towering five and a half feet tall which resemble his smaller indoor sculpture designs. In addition the gallery also exhibits two of Macomber’s famous metal spiders whose bodies are made of hand blown glass and stretch twenty-eight inches in diameter. These sculptures are a perfect adornment to any home and are sure to catch the attention of any guest. All of Macomber’s work is exquisitely handcrafted embodying bold colors and beautiful details.

New Work by artist Guy Tringali at Harvest Gold Gallery

We are so pleased to exhibit the artwork of Guy Tringali, at our Gallery this summer! Please join us next Friday July 9th from 3-6 for our grand summer art opening.

Guy Tringali, a full-time resident of Wellfleet in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and his new oil painting collection features a beautiful array of North Eastern landscape scenes and views of Kezar Lake in Lovell, Maine. His work combines a realistic style with an impressionistic style often giving an atmospheric glow and beauty to his overall pieces. Much of his inspiration comes straight from his roots, and being the son of a Gloucester fisherman has truly impacted much of his painting.

Tringali graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and further studied painting at the Museum School in Boston, MA. Guy also studied advertising art at the Butera School of Art in Boston. His career as an art and creative director in advertising spanned more than 35 years and throughout his career he was the recipient of many industry awards.

Harvest Gold Gallery is pleased and excited to hold Tringali’s exquisite fine art paintings and welcomes all to view his work currently on display.
